Additional Opportunities

Swimming

The children in Year 1 and Year 2 have swimming lessons every Friday morning in the autumn and summer terms. We travel by coach to the swimming pool at Braywick Leisure Centre where the swimming coaches teach the children in ability groups for 30 minutes. These swimming lessons are funded using the School Sports Premium.

Forest School and Outdoor Learning

As you will read on other pages on this website, we are strong believers in the value of taking the learning outdoors. Teachers seek regular opportunities to use our natural environment to enhance learning. In addition to this, we use our neighbouring woodland to run our Forest School programme. Mr Harris is a Forest School Leader and runs sessions in the woods every week. The children are able to take part in outdoor activities such as; tree climbing, den building, cooking marshmallows on an open fire and natural art.

Wrap Around Care

We open our doors at 8am so that parents and carers can get to work without worrying about school drop off. The children take part in craft activities, play board games and play in the outdoor area. After school, children can stay until 4.30pm for similar activities. There is a charge for this facility.

Specialist Teaching

All PE lessons at Burchetts Green Infant School are led by professional sports coaches. All children enjoy PE lessons with a sports coach on Wednesdays who follows our PE curriculum. On Fridays, we have a football coach who leads sessions with our Reception class throughout the year and with Year 1 and Year 2 during the spring term.

Music is taught by one of our teachers who is a music specialist. Currently, the children in Year 2 are learning to play the ukulele.

The children in Year 2 are learning French with Mr Harris.

Extra-curricular Clubs

We provide a variety of after school clubs, catering for a variety of interests. This year's clubs have included; sewing, art, Spanish, maths, science and multi sports. We have also provided street dance and football as lunch time clubs.
