BURCHETTS GREEN CE INFANT SCHOOL - SCHOOL LUNCHES & MENUS

New School Caterer Miquill

As a new contract, one of our key aims is to encourage pupils to try new foods, broaden their food experiences, and build confidence in making healthy choices. The menus have been designed to balance familiarity with gentle introduction of new flavours, ensuring pupils feel comfortable while still being offered opportunities to explore a wider variety of dishes.

Proposed Government School Food Standards Changes

You may be aware that the Government has recently proposed updates to the School Food Standards, expected to come into effect early next year. These proposed changes place a stronger emphasis on:

  • Reducing sugar content across school meals

  • Limiting higher‑sugar desserts and increasing fruit‑based or lower‑sugar alternatives

  • Increasing wholegrain and high‑fibre options

  • Encouraging more fresh, minimally processed ingredients

  • Strengthening nutritional balance across the weekly cycle

In preparation for these changes, Miquill and ODST have agreed to implement some early adjustments to dessert options from September. This ensures we remain ahead of compliance requirements and continue to support pupil health and wellbeing.

Edwards and Ward are committed to providing a nutritious and innovative menu using high quality ingredients.  They aim to continuously develop their food and service to exceed expectations and they will do this by communicating with both parents and pupils regularly.

Miquill have a flexible approach to menu planning making sure the needs of our school and pupils are met.  They are able to cater for children with special dietary requirements due to allergies or medical conditions, or those children who request a vegan or Halal menu.  Details can be found at the bottom of this page.

They are highly passionate about their service and really look forward to working with the school and pupils to create a dining experience that even the newest of our pupils will look forward to.

Miquill have highlighted a number of key areas that they will concentrate on during the term. They will concentrate on a service based on fresh food that encourages new tastes and food adventures for the pupils to enjoy; Fun Food Days and health and wellbeing.

The food children eat in school is very important for their education. Not only does a well-balanced diet help with general health but establishing healthy eating habits at a young age can give them knowledge for the future.

Our latest lunch menu can be found above.

Our lunches are currently provided by Edwards and Ward and will change to Miquill September 2026
